ABRSM Practical Grade Piano Exam Course, Grade 5

ABRSM's mission is: to nurture a love for music, and to inspire achievement in it. Practical Grade Piano exams consist of three pieces, scales and arpeggios, sight-reading, and aural tests. Total marks are 150: Pass 100, Merit 120 and Distinction 130. There are nine levels of assessment for Piano: Initial Grade and Grades 1 to 8.

Students will be asked to play a short unaccompanied piece of music which they have not seen before.

Length(bars): c.8-12

Other features that may be included: 4-part chords (2 notes max. in either hand); simple syncopation; slowing of tempo at end; ff

 

ABRSM AURAL TRAINING

One piece given by the piano teacher from the piano

A. To sing or play from memory a melody played twice by the piano teacher.

B. To sing six notes from score in free time.

C. (i) To answer questions about two features of a piece played by the piano teacher.

(ii) To clap the thythm of the notes in an extract from the same piece, and to identify whether it is in two time, three time or four time.
